WHAT WE DO

PROVIDE GEOSPATIAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

The GIS District will set the GIS standards for the Parish.  Those Parish entities using Parish base data sets will be able to take advantage of dozens of map and feature services housed on parish servers.  Among the products and services provided by the GIS District, now and in the future, are:

  • The distribution of data standards and data schemas

  • In house training opportunities (Ex; GPS Demo)

  • Assessor's GIS Guidance Manual

  • Cost sharing on ESRI software, imagery and other spatial inputs

COORDINATE PARISH WIDE GIS ACTIVITIES

The GIS District represents a cross section of agencies within the Parish that utilize GIS technology to analyze issues and support their conclusions.  There are five governmental entities that meet on the second Tuesday of every month to coordinate GIS.  Those agencies are:

  • A member representing the eight parish municipalities (Abita Springs, Covington, Lacombe, Madisonville, Mandeville, Pearl River, Slidell and Sun)

  •  A member representing the 12 Fire Districts and the City of Covington Fire Department.

  • A member representing the Assessor's Office

  • A member representing the Parish Communications District (E-911)

  • A Member Representing Parish Government

Helping The Community

USE GIS TO SUPPORT PARISH RESEARCH EFFORTS

At the GIS District, we are dedicated to supporting each other's research efforts with maps and data.  Among the federal agencies GIS District members have worked with are; US Census Bureau to ensure an accurate population count for St Tammany Parish, FEMA to update the Flood Maps and the National Weather Service to more accurately predict river heights during storm events.
